Westin Grand Bohemian - Guest Reviews

"Perfect for magicians and dark souls"

I just stayed at the Westin Grand Bohemian from Oct 10-13, 2003. My feelings are mixed in this hotel since the surroundings are so dark and dreary plus some other downfalls. It is a nice hotel in an awful location. They are off a one way street that is nearly impossiblew to find since the street address go from high to low and then high again. Also, each time you forget something in your car or want to drive somewhere, expect to pay $5-$10 to the valet guys since you have absolutely no other way to get to your vehicle. This was super inconvenient. Also, don't think you can check in before 3 p.m. You must "store" your luggage in some room outside of the hotel and wander around downtown Orlando for hours before you can check in. The rooms are incredibly dark...poop brown painted walls with jet black trim and very gaudy deep purple couches and curtains. The pictures on the walls look like death themselves. The ugly statues and fixtures outside the rooms can be overlooked though. I have stayed in many a hotel I would consider much more beautiful and convenient than the Grand Bohemian. If you have to pay over $149/night for this hotel, please consider something else.

"Wow Wow Wow"

This is an incredible hotel. I stayed here with 3 friends for 6 nights from 07/21/03 - 07/27/03.We were greeted by the always friendly doorman and parking attendants. Entering the lobby you knew you were staying somewhere special. There were vanilla candles filling the lobby with an inviting aroma. Check-in was smooth and professional. We had requested 2 Queens non-smoking and that is what we got on the Starwood Preferred Guest floor(12th). The Grand Bohemian labels itself as "An Experience in Art and Music" and that is exactly what we got. Beside the gallery on the first floor, there is art on each floors elevators landing area - If you have time you should check out the art by having the elevator stop at each floor so that you can see the uniqueness of each floor.
Upon entering the room; the experience continues. The walls are painted in deep rich colors as though you were in a Starbucks Coffee Shop. As a matter of fact, My friend and his wife loved the feel of the room so much that they have, in the past 2 weeks, turned their bedroom at home into a replica of the Westin Grand Bohemian room. There was lite jazz playing on the upgraded radio/cd player. The room came with the standard Westin Heavenly beds with down comforters and 5 pillows per bed. If you have never experienced a night in a Heavenly bed, then you are in for a treat.
The rooms are oversized thus leaving room for a purple velveteen lounge chair. The velvet floor-to-ceiling curtains overlapped wonderfully allowing us to keep the room completely dark in the mornings. The light switches in the room were easy to locate as they had orange l.e.d. lights glowing in them - The closet where the iron and ironing board were located - also had 2 robes AND a light in the closet!!The bathroom was astonishing - granite floor and countertop with a cool designed bathroom mirror. There was a coffee maker with Starbucks coffee provided. The Molson Brown hair products had an scrumptious smell.Housekeeping was also GREAT - returning our room to look like "new" each day. The housekeeper supervisor came by in the afternoons to ask if the rooms were done to our satisfaction. Now that was a nice touch. One day; one of my friends had gone out running and upon his return; one of the front desk clerk rushed to the elevator to give him a ice cold bottle of water. The pool area is decedent. There are 2 loins located about 6 feet from the pool that shoot water from their mouths back into the pool. The pool may be swallow - only 3.5 feet deep as it is located on the 6th floor over the parking garage, but it is unique in that it has a shelf on both sides of the pool running lengthwise about 2 feet down allowing you and your friends to sit and enjoy each others company. There is also a huge covered area with 5 chandeliers hanging from the underside giving it an elegant feel.
There was also a small but adequete gym - also next to the pool. It had a TV to help time pass on the trendmill and a large bottle of chilled water to hydrate yourself. Towels were also provided. The nice touch here was the bowl of apples to munch on after your work-out.The hotel had two fancy restaurants. We did not eat at either. I don't think we had the clothes with us to pass the dress code to get in. But we did use the full-service Starbucks located in the lobby on a daily basis to pick up a quick inexpensive breakfast. In the late evenings, we would go to Gino's pizza located just 2 blocks up Orange on the left. They had wonderful NY style pizza by-the-slice that we all enjoyed.I would describe our stay as nothing less than Fantastic. I hope that some day you would to get to experience this exquisite hotel experience.
