Orlando>Events>Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights![]() Visiting Orlando in the end of December - beginning of January, you have an opportunity to witness the splendid Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights. More than 5 Millions of lights illuminate the avenues of Disney's MGM Studios and bring the magic of Christmas to visitors. With a pair of complimentary holographic eyeglasses the spectacle takes on amazing new dimensions.
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights has burned at MGM Studios every holiday season since 1995. But the story began earlier, when Jennings Osborne, a Little Rock businessman asked his youngest daughter what her Christmas wish was and she said that she would like to see their whole house covered in lights. The first Osborne holiday was started with a modest 1000 lights. Each year the number of lights grew, along with lighted floating angles, ornaments, wreaths holiday greetings and much more. Within seven years the once simple tradition was transformed into a massive display of over 4 million lights. ![]() Though a joy for many who traveled to Little Rock just to view the Osborne lights, the neighbors and community found the lights to be excessive and disturbing. They asked that the Osborne family stop sharing their Christmas spirit with everyone in state. The Osborne's were invited to put up their display at Walt Disney World and the spectacle moved to Orlando. In fact, about 80% of the lights that are on display come from the original Osborne collection, but some new ideas were added. Today the spectacle includes two 30-foot-tall carousels, 170 flying angels, 50 lighted Mickey Mouse figures. |
